What URC 522 is
URC 522 is the ICC Uniform Rules for Collections. A collection instruction can state that the collection is subject to these rules.
Banks act on instructions
The collection instruction is central. It should clearly state what documents are included, whether release is against payment or acceptance, charges, protest instructions and other actions.
Documentary role
Banks handle documents as instructed but do not generally examine them for compliance in the same way as banks under a documentary credit.
Digital supplement
ICC also publishes eURC as a supplement for electronic presentation contexts. Use current versions and bank capability for live transactions.
Remember thisURC 522 governs collections when incorporated; it does not turn a collection into an LC.
