Can unauthenticated alterations create documentary problems?

Small documentary details that can become large operational problems.
Original vs copy
Credits often state numbers of originals and copies. The meaning of “original” depends on the document and applicable practice; simply printing “ORIGINAL” is not the whole test.
Signatures
Electronic, facsimile, stamped or manual signatures can be treated differently depending on document, rules and wording. Do not invent a signature requirement that is not there.
Corrections and alterations
Changes may need authentication by the document issuer depending on the document and applicable practice. Multiple unauthenticated alterations can create discrepancies.
Document control
Version control matters. Reissuing a document without withdrawing the old version can create confusion, especially when originals control goods or title.
Standards / source note: For documentary-credit work, read the actual credit and amendments together with UCP 600 and the current ICC ISBP where applicable.
Remember this“Looks like an original” and “is acceptable as an original under the relevant rules” are not the same test.
