Discrepancy, Refusal, Waiver and Cure

What happens after the bank finds a problem.

Identify the discrepancy

The bank should identify why the presentation does not comply. The beneficiary needs a precise reason, not merely “documents rejected.”

Can it be cured?

If time remains, a document may sometimes be corrected/replaced and re-presented. Practical possibility depends on the document and deadlines.

Applicant waiver

An issuing bank may seek or receive an applicant waiver in some situations, but the issuing bank’s own decision and applicable rules still matter. A waiver is not automatic honour.

Disposition of documents

A refusal notice also deals with what the bank will do with the documents. Operational handling is important because transport originals can control goods.

Standards / source note: For documentary-credit work, read the actual credit and amendments together with UCP 600 and the current ICC ISBP where applicable.
Remember thisDiscrepancy does not automatically mean the transaction is dead, but time and bank decisions matter.
