Cloned Banks, Fake Officers and Lookalike Domains

Verify the institution and person independently.

Lookalike domains

Fraudsters can register domains that differ by one letter, use subdomains or free email services, and copy real bank branding.

Independent contact

Find the bank’s official website and regulator/registry independently. Call a published switchboard and ask to be connected to the claimed officer.

Do not rely on signatures

Email signatures, business cards, stamps and LinkedIn profiles can be fabricated or impersonated.

Verify BIC and institution status

A BIC identifies messaging context but does not by itself prove the specific person, account, transaction or solvency claim.

Source / standards noteA warning sign is not proof of fraud. Verify independently and obtain professional advice before acting on a material transaction.
