Revolving Documentary Credit

Understand repeated availability without treating “revolving” as one universal design.

Purpose

A revolving credit can make an amount available repeatedly for recurring shipments or periods according to its wording.

Cumulative vs non-cumulative

Unused amounts may or may not carry forward depending on the structure. Do not assume.

Time or value based

Reinstatement can depend on time periods, utilisation or other conditions stated in the credit.

Operational complexity

Banks and parties need clear maximum exposure, reinstatement rules and shipment/document schedules.

Source / standards noteThis lesson uses original plain-English explanations. Read the credit, UCP 600 and current bank practice for a live transaction.
Remember this“Revolving” is a structure described by the actual credit wording; read how and when availability reinstates.
