BPU and BPO in Supply-Chain Context

Separate formal supply-chain terminology from provider-market wording.

BPU concept

Industry definitions use Bank Payment Undertaking for a bank undertaking that can arise in certain digital/supply-chain structures and support financing.

Historic BPO

Bank Payment Obligation was developed as a bank-to-bank obligation triggered by electronic data matching under URBPO/TSU architecture.

Provider-market BPU

Private SBLC/provider procedures may also call a receiving bank promise a “BPU.” Similar words do not necessarily mean the same product, platform or rules.

Ask the structure

Identify the obligor bank, beneficiary, trigger, rules, platform/message and payment condition instead of relying on the acronym alone.

Standards / source note: Supply-chain-finance terminology is guided by the Global Supply Chain Finance Forum definitions, while the actual legal, credit and operational structure remains transaction-specific.
Remember thisThe same three letters can describe different market structures. Read the actual obligation.
