Cyber Fraud, Compromised Email and Digital Verification

Digital trade removes paper friction but introduces new attack paths.

Business email compromise

Fraudsters can imitate suppliers, buyers or bank staff and change beneficiary payment instructions. Independent verification of changed account details is essential.

Document manipulation

PDF metadata, logos and signatures can be altered easily. Visual appearance alone is weak evidence of authenticity.

Platform identity

Access controls, multi-factor authentication, signing certificates and audit trails can strengthen evidence, but users must protect credentials.

Out-of-band verification

High-risk changes should be confirmed using contact information obtained independently, not by replying to the same potentially compromised email thread.

Standards / source note: Digital trade depends on the current ICC eUCP/eURC/URDTT framework where applicable, platform capability and the electronic-transactions law of relevant jurisdictions.
Remember thisBetter digital tools reduce some risks and create others. Authentication must follow the channel, not the logo.
