What should a checker read before judging the documents?
Learn the documentary mindset before checking individual documents.
Under a documentary credit, banks determine whether the presented documents comply with the credit and applicable rules. They are not deciding whether the physical goods are good.
Document checking begins with the actual LC and amendments. A document that looks normal may still be discrepant if the credit requires something different.
Documents do not necessarily need to repeat every word identically, but information must not conflict in a way that breaches the applicable requirements.
ICC’s ISBP provides detailed standard banking practice for examining documents under UCP 600 and should be used with the current UCP rules for professional work.
