Transport mode matters
A marine bill of lading, multimodal transport document, air waybill and road/rail document are not interchangeable. The credit should ask for a document that matches the real route.
On-board and shipment evidence
For ocean transport, on-board wording/date can determine the shipment date. Air and other transport documents have different evidence conventions.
Consignee and notify party
“To order”, named consignee and notify-party instructions affect control and delivery. Check the wording carefully before shipment.
Transshipment and routing
A practical route may require transshipment. The credit and applicable transport-document rules should be checked before assuming that a connection creates a discrepancy.
