Fake SWIFT Copies and Fabricated Messages

Learn why visual authenticity is not bank authentication.

PDFs and screenshots

A SWIFT-looking PDF, screenshot or printout can be edited or fabricated. Formatting alone is not reliable proof.

Proper route

The beneficiary or receiving bank should confirm whether it actually received/authenticated the message through its bank channel and what the message status is.

Message content

Even a genuine free-format message may not say what a promoter claims it says. Read the actual function and wording.

Do not ship/pay only from a copy

For material transactions, wait for the bank confirmation and other agreed conditions before acting.

Source / standards noteA warning sign is not proof of fraud. Verify independently and obtain professional advice before acting on a material transaction.
Remember thisA SWIFT copy is evidence to investigate, not a substitute for authenticated receipt by the bank.
